A Call for Matching Donors for the LEV Foundation " Robust Mouse Rejuvenation 2 " Fundraiser
The Longevity Escape Velocity (LEV) Foundation was founded by Aubrey de Grey to address an important missing aspect of the ongoing work to produce treatments that target the underlying mechanisms of aging. While the research and development community has made sizable strides in the past decade, and the first rejuvenation therapies now exist in at least prototype form, it remains the case that next to no-one is conducting combination studies that use two or more of these interventions. When considering therapies that can repair forms of the cell and tissue damage that cause aging, it seems plausible that two different thera...

Non-surgical management in children with non-refluxing primary megaureter: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionsThe low pooled prevalence of secondary surgical intervention and high pooled prevalence of resolution may support the current non-surgical management in children with non-refluxing primary megaureter. However, these results should be interpreted cautiously due to the limited available body of evidence. Future studies should overcome existing limitations of imaging methods by using standardized, comparable criteria and report outcome parameters in a quantitative manner. This would allow more sufficient data synthesis to provide evidence-based recommendations for clinical decision-making and counseling.Systematic ...

Effect of robotic-assisted gait training on gait and motor function in spinal cord injury: a protocol of a systematic review with meta-analysis
Introduction Robotic-assisted gait training (RAGT) has been reported to be effective in rehabilitating patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). However, studies on RAGT showed different results due to a varied number of samples. Thus, summarising studies based on robotic-related factors is critical for the accurate estimation of the effects of RAGT on SCI. This work aims to search for strong evidence showing that using RAGT is effective in treating SCI and analyse the deficiencies of current studies. Methods and analysis The following publication databases were electronically searched in December 2022 without restrictions ...

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Defining what we mean by "polysubstance use."
Am J Drug Alcohol Abuse. 2023 Sep 21:1-7. doi: 10.1080/00952990.2023.2248360. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rise in drug overdoses and harms associated with the use of more than one substance has led to increased use of the term "polysubstance use" among researchers, clinicians, and public health officials. However, the term retains no consistent definition across contexts. The current authors convened from disciplines including sociology, epidemiology, neuroscience, and addiction psychiatry to propose a recommended definition of polysubstance use. An iterative process considered authors' formal and informal conversati...

Psychosocial interventions and their effectiveness on quality of life among elderly persons living with HIV in Africa South of the Sahara: Systematic review and meta -analysis protocol
by Marijanatu Abdulai, David Owiredu, Isaac Boadu, Philip Teg-Nefaah Tabong, Bismark Sarfo, Harriet Affran Bonful, Adolphina Addo- Lartey, Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo, Anthony Danso-Appiah BackgroundThe number of elderly people living with HIV (EPLHIV) has increased significantly as a result of antiretroviral treatment (ART) and this has brought about a variety of psychosocial challenges that have an impact on their quality of life (QoL). Various psychosocial interventions have been tried or implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to improve QoL of EPLHIV. However, there is paucity of data on the types and effectiveness of these i...

Exploring experiences of times without care and encounters in dementia: protocol for a living and adaptive evidence map
Introduction Individuals with dementia spend most of the day without care, without encounters, and usually without activity. Although this has been proven in studies, there is a knowledge gap on how individuals with dementia experience these periods of time. Such knowledge would be highly relevant for health professionals and relatives to develop adequate strategies for dealing with these periods of time. The FreiZeit study aims to reconstruct periods of time without care and encounters from the perspective of individuals with dementia and formal and informal carers. The specific objective of this review is to provide a co...

Mapping global evidence on injuries/trauma due to sexual and gender-based violence for research prioritisation and development of guidelines to mitigate their impact: a scoping review protocol
This study will include evidence sources focused on the epidemiological burden, guidelines for out-of-hospital and in-hospital care of victims, barriers or facilitators to reporting and obtaining healthcare, and approaches for mitigating injuries/trauma due to SGBV. The search will be limited to publications within 10 ye ars (2012 to 2023). Two authors will apply the eligibility criteria to identify potentially relevant citations. The data will be extracted in duplicate and methodological quality assessed using varied tools (Mixed Method Quality Appraisal Tool; and Appraisal of Guidelines, Research and Evaluation in strum...

Transdiagnostic MRI markers of psychopathology following traumatic brain injury: a systematic review and network meta-analysis protocol
Introduction Psychopathology following traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common and debilitating consequence that is often associated with reduced functional and psychosocial outcomes. There is a lack of evidence regarding the neural underpinnings of psychopathology following TBI, and whether there may be transdiagnostic neural markers that are shared across traditional psychiatric diagnoses. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to examine the association of MRI-derived markers of brain structure and function with both transdiagnostic and specific psychopathology following moderate–severe TBI. Meth...

Robotic-assisted versus laparoscopic incisional hernia repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThe robotic approach for incisional hernia repair was associated with a significant difference between the two groups in complications and recurrence rates, a longer operative time than laparoscopic repair, but with a shorter length of stay.

Ensuring Fairness in Medical Education Assessment
This study takes a first step in centering the margins as we as medical educators grow our understanding of the dynamics of promoting fairness in assessment. Future studies should explore feedback with intentional inclusion and involvement of diverse students, teachers, and researchers at every stage of the research process from conceptualization through dissemination and application of the new learning. We thank our participants for their time and candor discussing this sensitive topic and the Group on Educational Affairs for funding our work. Thank you for your time and attention and the focus that you’ll put on th...
